What Is A British Menopause Society Accredited Menopause Specialist?

A British Menopause Society (BMS) accredited menopause specialist is a healthcare professional that has undertaken advanced menopause training and has proven knowledge and skills to assess and treat complex menopause cases.

They are qualified to lead a menopause service and can accept referrals to support their colleagues. They can also signpost to other trusted professionals to provide holistic and individualised care.

British Menopause Society Recognised Menopause Qualifications

A healthcare professional needs to satisfy specific eligibility criteria including achieving one of the following recognised menopause qualifications before they can apply for BMS accreditation:

  • BMS Advanced Certificate in the Principles and Practice of Menopause Care.
  • RCOG Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM) in menopause care.
  • FSRH Menopause Care Professional Diploma (MCPD).
  • FSRH Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care.
  • “ FSRH Community Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare (CSRH) curriculum, obtaining the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or reaching the equivalent standard as assessed by the GMC and awarded a CESR in CSRH.”
  • “An equivalent qualification (e.g. menopause and POI module of the subspecialty training programme in reproductive medicine).”

Recertification Every 3 Years

BMS menopause specialists need to demonstrate that they are keeping up-to-date with their knowledge and skills to be able to achieve recertification every 3 years.
