If you have started a weight loss injection called Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and are also taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT), it is really important that your prescriber is aware of the type of HRT that you are taking, so that your HRT regimen can be appropriately adjusted, if needed.
One of the ways that Mounjaro works is by slowing down the rate of gastric emptying, and this can interfere with the absorption of some oral treatments and make them less effective.
The main concern with HRT is with regimens that include an oral progesterone/progestogen. This is because Mounjaro can potentially make them less effective at protecting the lining of your womb (to prevent womb cancer).
A responsible prescriber should always take a detailed medical history from you, including your list of current medications, and be able to advise you on potential drug interactions and how to mitigate them.
However, weight loss injections are becoming increasingly accessible and not all prescribers are necessarily ‘responsible,’ so please be very careful of your choice of service.
