Your Menopause Appointment with Your GP…

How Do I Make The Most Out Of A 10-Minute Consultation?

  • Complete a menopause symptom checker or questionnaire before your GP appointment.

  • Ask the GP receptionist whether there is a GP with a special interest at the practice and try to book an appointment with them.

  • Alternatively, you can check the GP practice website to view their list of GPs. GPs that fit coils and implants tend to have a special interest in women’s health, as well as GPs that have the following qualifications listed: DRCOG, DFSRH, DFFP. If they have the BMS/FSRH Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care (or an equivalent qualification), they are a menopause specialist.

  • Try to book a double appointment (if possible) so that you and your GP do not feel too rushed.

  • Discuss your menopause symptom checker/questionnaire results as part of the consultation.
